Slow worms

I found a slow worm in the garden the other week – docile and harmless lizards. They look more like snakes but are in fact legless lizards. They are fiarly common throughout southern Britain.

We have a healthy population living in the Walled Garden at Parke

Slow worms like sheltering under bits of wood – I have just uncovered this one

They also live on the high moor on Dartmoor – we came across this one a few years ago on the military road near to the Camp at Okehampton.

Slow worms like all UK reptiles are protected by law as over the past few decades they have declined considerably as a result of habitat changes
