The first hawkmoth of the year appeared in my trap this morning
A Poplar Hawkmoth on the egg box where it rested overnight. They are on the wing between May and early August
Individual released onto a nearby bramble before it flew off to rest up for the day. As its name suggests the caterpillars feed on poplars – they also feed on willows.
This is a Treble Lines named as such for an obvious reason. It is a common species and the caterpillars feed on a range of herbaceous plants such as plantains, ina-weeds and dandelions. It is on the wing between May and early July.
