A day of gig racing at Salcombe

Along with hundreds of other people I spent yesterday afternoon in the glorious sunshine at Salcombe Regatta on the Kingsbridge Estuary. The Regatta was organised by the Salcombe Gig Rowing Club and involved a full programme of gig racing.

Salcombe Regatta 1
Half past eleven and the tide is still going out – around a dozen gigs tied up to the pontoon

Salcombe Regatta 2
The start of the Men’s B race

Salcombe Regatta 3
Amazing views across the Estuary which is now full of water

I raced for Exmouth Gig Club’s boat Rodney Bey in the Vet’s Race – my legs and arms are aching this morning. If you fancy trying out a bit of Gig Rowing at Exmouth – visit our website and book up a free session – see here.

Thanks to Salcombe Gig Club for organising and thanks to all involved with Exmouth Gig Club (especially the Coxes and gig boat towers) for making it all happen.
