A walk around Exminster Marshes

Spent yesterday afternoon having a walk around the RSPB reserve at Exminster Marshes.

Exminster 1
It is basically a large area of undrained wet grassland – very important for breeding waders in the spring and wintering wildfowl at this time of year

Exminster 5It is not that easy a place to birdwatch at because access is limited to prevent disturbance.

Exminster 4Across the marshes towards Topsham – along the road down to the carpark by the canal / Turf Locks Road is the best place to views birds

Exminster 2Mute swan

Exminster 3

Canada goose

There were also a lot of wigeon, teal and other ducks on some of the wet flashes but I couldn’t photograph them as I was looking straight into the sun

Exminster 6My first photo this winter of a daffodil!

Pleasant if muddy walk which could be tied in with a pit stop at the Turf Locks.
