Yesterday was a very windy day on St Mary’s – we walked around Salakee Downs past the end of the runway and we could hardly stand up – it was a bit of the mystery how the planes were able to take off and land. It confirmed my view that whatever the sea was like I would rather in the Scillonian…..
It was a bit calmer in the hides at Higher Moors.
Here is another shot of the great blue heron on Lower Moors for comparison (it was still there yesterday afternoon)
A pair of gadwall on Higher Moors
Also saw my first swift of the year at Higher Moors yesterday. In the bay at Porth Mellon managed to get a half decent shot of the long tailed duck
Last thing yesterday we went to see if we could watch a night heron come into to roost – one did come in but on account of the ‘night element’ there is no photograph.
