Fingle Woods and a roe deer

Spent a day going around Fingle Woods yesterday to review the winter’s woodland management work. I was joined by the NT’s Head of Forestry Ray Hawes, Mick Jones our Lead Ranger for North Dartmoor and Dave Rickwood Site Manager for the Woodland Trust.

Fingle Woods 5On the way around we came across this buck roe deer

Fingle Woods 2The conifers are beginning to be thinned which gradually lets the light in

I don’t want to put words in Ray’s mouth but I got the impression he was impressed by the amount of woodland management work that we have already carried out and by the huge scale of the woodlands and other habitats we now manage down the Teign – ‘conservation on a landscape scale’
