At some point during 2015 the old pavilion at Exeter Cricket Club will be demolished and replaced by a block of flats for students at Exeter University. The pavilion was built in 1902 and was opened by no less a cricketer than WG Grace.

The story is quite complicated but the pavilion is no longer really fit for purpose and has not been listed by English Heritage. A new more modern pavilion will be built near to the existing one and this along with the development of the flats will ensure that Exeter Cricket Club continues to flourish. For a full account of this story – see here.

ECC2The Cricket Club was formed in 1824 – 78 years before the existing pavilion was built
