Visit Dartmoor

I went to the High Moorland Visitor Centre last night to see the launch of ‘Visit Dartmoor‘ – our new destination marketing/tourism organisation. I have been involved for a number of years with the previous incarnation of this – the Dartmoor Partnership which has recently folded for financial reasons. The National Trust is one of the supporters of Visit Dartmoor as its work will be of prime importance to us and everyone else who runs a business (commercial, governmental and charity) on Dartmoor. We need to compete in the Devon, SW, English and national tourism markets and if we don’t all of us will suffer. In the case of the National Trust we need visitors (particularly at Castle Drogo, Lydford Gorge, Sexton’s Cottage, Finch Foundry, Buckland Abbey and Parke) as these visitors provide us with the money to do our vital conservation work.
