A tiger in the garden and Remembrance Sunday

Today is Remembrance Sunday – I can do no better than refer back to the post I did earlier in the week if you missed it then – see here.

Following on from that, I photographed this caterpillar earlier this week in the garden. As you can see a few drops of rain have fallen into the long hairs.

Caterpilar 1I think this is one of the tiger moths – probably the ruby tiger

Caterpilar 2

Most of the tiger moth caterpillars overwinter as caterpillars (many other species overwinter as a pupae) so that explains why I saw a caterpillar out in November! Next spring around the April the caterpillar will stop feeding and before a cocoon / pupae before then metamorphosing into an adult moth
