The thick legged flower beetle

The common name of this beetle has always been one of my favourites! Oedemera nobilis is known as the thick legged or swollen legged flower beetle. The males of the species have very swollen back leg thighs – the females don’t . Unfortunately my photos are of a female …. I will attempt to photograph a male in due course. This is a common beetle at this time of year – often seen on flowers where it eats the pollen. The green colour is enhanced in sunshine by  an iridescent coppery shine.
